"Every time I crossed into a new discipline, I felt like an immigrant again," she reflects. "I had to learn a new language, understand a new culture, and earn the trust of people who had spent their careers there." This experience has shaped her appreciation for the interconnectedness of scientific fields.

Grass's passion for understanding cultures extends beyond the lab. She co-founded the Graduate First-Generation Low-Income Student Group at MIT, creating a supportive community that has grown into a network of over 300 graduate students from diverse backgrounds. Her love for travel and language learning, coupled with her culinary adventures, showcases her belief in the power of food as a universal language.
"I've realized that every culture has its own language and every scientific discipline its own way of understanding the world," she says. "My goal is to help medicine understand the principles that govern communication across the human body in health and disease."
